Does it even still EXIST??????? Edit: I guess it still does |
Was excited enough for Geats that I watched KR live as it aired for the first time ever, and it did not disappoint! The action was really cool, and what I could understand of the story has me really interested.
- Geats himself, from what little we’ve seen, is a different main Rider from what we’ve had for a while, and I’m struggling to think of a comparison that’s really similar to what we saw in this episode. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of him, and what the dynamic between him and Tycoon is like once Keiwa is officially a Rider. - There are some interesting elements to the Desire Grand Prix that I don’t think we knew about before now. Namely what’s piqued my interest most is how the game returns to the past at the end with only the Riders and the people running the game retaining full memory of what’s happened, and the idea that there’s many other Riders besides our major characters that we may never even see transformed onscreen. - Anyone who placed their bets on Shiro as the first Rider death can collect their bragging rights at the exit, and a bonus too because he takes it to a whole new level by dying after only a few minutes of screentime and before the main Rider’s even transformed. |
Not going to say that much, since the episode barely just aired, but I liked it, it wasn't as great as I might've hoped, and I do feel that Revice had the better first episode, but it was still decent. The action choreography was really good, even if there was a lot of CGI that I didn't particularly like. Though I feel that if we got better pacing and more fighting, I would've enjoyed it more, but it's still alright in its current state.

Geats 100% lived up to the hype and then some. That was one of the best first episodes of a Rider series I've seen in a while. It's so, so refreshing. Where do I even begin?
I really, really liked how the main Rider is just overconfident and overpowered right out of the bat, and it seems that he's not even going to be the character we as the audience sympathize with the most. It reminds me of the Tendo/Kagami dynamic from Kabuto. I also like how Sakurai starts off the series applying for a job and having his idealism shut down by reality. Great motivation for competing in the Desire Grand Prix. I'm just curious about how (or even why) Geats is going to continue participating in the tournament, considering the fact that he's already won it already. Does he want another wish? What was his wish before? Here's hoping that they are able to keep him interesting and maintain that overconfident air that he has. There's also a sense of weight and gravitas to the Desire Grand Prix, thanks to the lack of any kind of obtrusive slapstick comedy and goofy editing that recent Rider shows have been known for. Speaking of which, with Boost flying off at the end, does Geats have to go find it every time he uses the special or finisher, or was that just a comedy thing? Regardless, I was absolutely glued to the screen from start to finish. Needless to say, all the suits and action were top-notch. Really looking forward to following this one weekly. Haven't really been doing that since Gaim. |
Even without subs yet I loved this episode. So nice to finally have a Reiwa main Rider who's not an ultra polite goodboy. Reminds me of Sento or Tendou. Also very very nice to have a main Rider with a scarf for the first time since W!

So Reiwa has it's first ace rider. Fittingly named Ace.
I'm down. Bit of a Tendou and Kagami, or Sento and Ryuga dynamic. Always fun. So it starts with the end of the first world (Game?), and the beginning of a new one because Geats won, it seems? So does that mean that Geats's desire was for a new game to begin? Or was a new game going to occur regardless? With the set up Keiwa got in this episode, it definitely feels like it's going to be his story, but that's fine. I only wish his moment of despair didn't literally occur in the first episode. Oh well. Transformation sequence was...Nothing special. I'm not a fan of the giant hand just sliding the armor onto them. Action was pretty cool, though. And hopefully his bike-fox sticks around for more than 3 episodes before being dropped. |
Started off on a sad note, IzuSubs isn’t subbing this. Really enjoyed their work on Saber and Revice.
Who's left to look out for in terms of consistency when it comes to releasing episodes? I watched a random scrub that I found; it was okay but didn’t sit with me well in certain translations. Any word from Over-Time? As far as the show goes, very interesting premise. The main character basically won already, and remade the world into his ideal one. I wonder if they would dare make the main Rider the main antagonist. Like, not the bad guy, but basically someone who needs to be defeated for things to change. Because he won but the Grand Prix is still there, so maybe he just likes the game? But someone else, like the secondary Rider, needs to win to wish for a world without the game? I'm curious to see where things go from here. |
a strong start as expected.
You can definitely feel the Takahashi vibes but Geats has its own identity. Jamato footsoldiers feel both goofy but also capable to fight. It's like chicken head bugsters learned to fight. Also Geats seem to be a show with a strong identity, signified by the BGM. I don't know if that's a thing Takahashi asks, because both Ex-Aid and Zero-one had very distinguishable sound design (bgm + belt sounds) but that's a good thing to me. i still remember both shows music while a show like Saber I already forgot. The only thing I found disappointing is that the bgm from the movie when Geats appeared isn't here. I really loved it but it doesn't seem to be anywhere. |
Suddenly Final Form Rides don't seem as painful.
