Revice has this cynical edge to it that keeps catching me off guard. I really didn't expect Yosuke to just DIE like that. In general, the villains in this show are probably the highlight for me so far. Julio and Aquilera in particular both get a lot of focus so that the viewer can understand their mindsets better, to the point I'm really rooting for both of them to be saved in the end! Between Julio getting emotionally steamrolled and Aquilera's genuine attempt to cheer him up and rescue him, there were good moments for both of them. It is really unusual for me to like villains this much, so props to the show on that front.
On the side of the heroes, I think the bits with Hiromi and Sakura were good this episode too. Hiromi is getting absolutely physically destroyed by the Rider System, so I'm excited to see where they go with it next week. Sakura trying to reconcile Yosuke and Julio was a nice scene, even if it had devastating consequences, and I liked the little knowing look her and Aquilera gave each other at the end. On the other hand, even though this episode had a a heavy emphasis on Ikki, I just... don't particularly enjoy him as a character for some reason. I'm inclined to agree with Fish that I don't like how whenever it seems like he might change as a character he just kinda defaults back to his comfort zone instead. I might warm up to him more later, but I find him a bit forgettable as a Rider protagonist so far. Daiji is also at a point where I think he desperately needs more attention, since he hasn't done much since the Kagerou arc. |

I used to think Medic from Drive was irredeemable, but it turned out she was a kind person who got corrupted by absorbing too many negative emotions from healing other Roidmudes. Quote:

I don't think it was meant to be that his body is literally 80; more a way of saying that the Demons Driver has done such an immense amount of damage that his internal organs are so useless they may as well be an 80 year old's. That's what I got from the subs anyway. In any case, yeah, pretty bad situation for him all around!

Julio started to blame himself when he realized that he was aware that his friend was put in an impossible situation, but his anger and disappointment blinded him to it. Quote:

Ooh forgot to mention. This episode do give me the idea that George isn't/wouldn't become a villain, simply by apologizing to Ikki about the Volcano stamp.
He's just pragmatic and kinda shady sometimes, but he most likely has good intentions as well. |

Considering Olteca's plot still revolves around Gifu, I'm sure he'll be the final piece, or whatever, to reviving Gifu's heart.

Regarding Aguilera, while she had ulterior motive for bringing Julio in to Deadmans, she's still loyal to him now. So I personally feel that she's sympathetic for that. |
So, Julio/Tamaki us just like me when I get mad and cause a nuclear explosion in my vicinity.
Last week's episode: we got to see Ikki and Vice do some VR training (the kind they say happens in Zero-One, but now you can actually see it), Julio's real name is Tamaki, a former Yu-Gi-Oh! knockoff cardgame player, and his friend is searching for him. Volcanic Rex debuts, and while the suit looks fantastic, the colors aren't exactly my favorite, with the gold and purple not exactly fitting for a fire themed form, but Vice's frosty form looks great. The thing I appreciate about Revice's forms is how they're not too busy, being very simple and streamlined as opposed to previous gimmick and upgrade forms, nothing against those, but there's something to be said in beauty in simplicity. Also, the Giftarians appear in a slightly disturbing fashion, unfortunately while they look cool, they don't seem to be varied. This week, oh boy, this was a fantastic episode! We got the resolution to the Tamaki/Yosuke arc, which was actually one of the best arcs in this season, Vice being a top tier supporter, and playing the two-as-one Rider magnificently. I could gush about how much I loved this episode, but I'll leave it at that. Hiromi is now officially an old man, I hope he doesn't die but remain as the Commander of FENIX if we don't get to see Demons again. And what's the deal with this doctor guy? I'm guessing he might be one of the folks who defiled Gif's tomb in '73 and we're seeing a Build situation where the ancient artifact corrupted everyone or something, I don't know. Next Week: Olteca decides to kill our favorite supporting Rider. |
