I've always been a much bigger fan of 1985 primarily for Raymond Burr's scenes and a slightly faster pace.

1985's dub is also pretty great for a Heisei Godzilla film. I think the only lame moments...

Max, Mebius, the original 1966 series, and X are the shows I recommend newer viewers start with.

I'd watch them in this order:

1966 or Max first, then your second choice, Mebius, and finally X....
