It was never going to fail not with Viacom throwing money at it, like they did. With Disney you can tell they didn't want the show after a while, heck people on that production team confirmed...

I get the feeling Nickelodeon pretty much said to them 'take it or leave it' over the 2 years thing. Also gives Bandai an excuse to make more toys.
