Yeah, Faiz doesn't really work as a dark show since the "darkness" is so incredibly over the top that it borders on ridiculous at times.

Kuuga, Agito, and especially Ryuki have a darkness that stems from genuinely horrifying premises. Ryuki's is probably my favorite in that regard because it is completely terrifying if you stop and think about it - every single reflective surface is a potential gateway for a monster to reach out and grab you at any time. Stop and look around at all the reflective surfaces around you right now and tell me that prospect wouldn't scare you shitless.
