Pick your reasoning

1. He seemed to have planned to throw him into the sun. Black holes are still viable options.
2. Even if he missed the black hole, he'd have to be off by a few million miles, considering light, the fastest known entity in this universe, cannot escape a black hole.
3. I will give you that one. However, considering the speed at which Phoenix travelled to the sun, by the time he flew back to Earth, years would have passed, since Phoenix's speed was faster than that of light, and Phoenix cannot fly with that speed with his own power.
