Right now I'm deciding between the FMCS version and the S.H. Figuarts version. Before you yell, "FIGUARTS!!!", hear me out on this.
My main priority in toys is stability and playability. I like my toys to feel like solid toys. I love fiddling with my toys. I would sacrifice sculpt and articulation to a certain degree if my toys at least feel that they can take a bit of abuse and still feel good. This is epitomized in my love for Bandai of Japan's Super Sentai mecha, which while looking blocky and are as articulated as a brick, make me feel safer when fiddling with them as opposed to other robot figures.
So here's where the FMCS version comes in. Things I like better in it:
1) The way the modules attach.
I'm really not a fan of detaching and attaching accessories/limbs the way the Figuarts does them; for instance, my GokaiRed has used his folded arms pose only once.
2) I get all four main modules!
Having Radar is a huge bonus, and Launcher is pretty nice too. I don't have to buy Module sets.
3) Seems less fragile.
I always worry about breaking my Figuarts.
4) Less tiny pieces to lose
, such as hands and tiny switches.
5)
If we're talking about look, the
FMCS version seems to have nicer proportions in the head-to-torso ratio.
The Figuarts, of course, has other advantages:
1) Overall superior details
, from the compound eyes to proper antenna, to the texture, to a fantastic translucent driver.
2) It would fit in
with my Figuarts Double and GokaiRed.
3) Nice extra accessories
if you buy all the module sets, such as the rocket thrusters' effects and mini ground craters.
4) More joints
, a fantastic range of poseability.
5) Not very different in terms of price.
The remaining question that I have is:
Which has better, longer-lasting joints?
I hope you guys can get where I'm coming at and maybe you'll give me a good informed assessment of both figures. Thank you!
