However, it appears that some of us never learned key grammatical concepts. As such, I have taken it upon myself to educate this site on the proper usage of the English language. Our first lesson shall be on spelling. To start us off, I will list a few words that are constantly misspelled or are used in place of words that actually exist.
1).
Alot
--
Alot
is not a real word. When you want to describe a large quantity with the word
lot
, you must separate the
a
and the
lot
. If you combine them together... well, just look up "The Alot is Better Than You at Everything."
2).
Irregardless
-- The word
regardless
means "without regard." The prefix "Ir-" means "not." Therefore,
irregardless
means "not without regard."
3).
Weird
--
Weird
is spelled "w-e-i-r-d," not "w-i-e-r-d."
4).
Defiantly
-
Defiantly
means "with defiance." An example sentence correctly utilizing
defiantly
is, "The baby defiantly mowed the lawn." For whatever reason, the baby in this sentence defied the norm and mowed the lawn. Why do I bring up
defiantly
? Because it is coonstantly used in place of
def
inite
ly
.
And so concludes our first lesson. Next time, we'll look at the importance of adverbs (or something like that).
And you misspelled "constantly."
*singsong voice* Irony!
