They started out re-telling the story, literally, which I don't think was necessary or the most interesting way to catch people up on Season 1. To add to the confusion, Dairanger has been replaced with Akibaranger? Is this a delusion? Parallel universe? I thought Akibaranger was set in the real world, but in the real world, Dairanger is the 17th Sentai team. What's the significance? It's more bizarre than it is a compelling mystery.

The beginning theme song isn't as fun or energetic as the original, and the end song is boring - though not much worse than the original. I also really miss Sayaka. All of Nobuo's moments with her in Season 1 were some of the funniest in the show.

Overall, this was a really lackluster way to start Season 2. There was no conflict, the pacing and editing was unpleasantly hectic, it wasn't funny, and it was really low energy. It just didn't feel right.

I hope things improve with Episode 2. Episode 1 just seemed really cheap and sloppy.

I think you may have missed the point of this season. Hate Saburo was manipulating them through out the first season into becoming an official sentai. They refused this and rebelled against their creator, and were then "cancelled". Now, Saburo has doctored the history of season one such that the characters don't realize anything is different. The change in story IS necessary because that's the point of Season 2.

Their world has been altered so that he never tried to make them official, at least not in the same way. They had a finale and beat the bad guys, but they don't know that in doing so Saburo manipulated them into being official and replacing Dairanger. All of the "poor" & "choppy" editing in those altered scenes is intentional so that we as viewers can see how badly Saburo has rewritten the show.

If it seems poorly put together it's intentional. They want us to see how he's screwed with them.
