I'm glad to here there are others here that are interested in ptcgo. I have been playing for the last month, and just recently (within the past two days), it has become much easier to get free cards in the game.

There are 3 new decks available in the Trainer Challenge that will unlock in multiplayer after 7 wins with each deck. Also, each trainer in the Trainer Challenge keeps a record of how many points you've scored against them. If you reach 30,000 total points (which can be anywhere from 5-10 wins depending on how you play), you get a free pack. Also reaching that score for everyone in a league gives you +3 packs. Thus, since there are 3 leagues, that is 45 free packs you can earn. Remember, though, that you can't trade free packs or their contents, but this will give you a larger library of cards to choose from when making a deck.
