Rusty and Big Guy? That show was a treasure among Crap.
Spider couldn't do anything? It did bother me that they numbed Carnage. I remember the reason to, the head of Marvel at the time said "Obviously we can't show Carnage killing people on Saturday Morning TV, despite him being a serial killer. But you know he's capable of that, so we don't have to show it". You have no idea he's capable of that if you're first introduction is the cartoon. Iron Man though I loved, but the second season was so much better. The theme song along stepped it up a notch. Incredable Hulk was confusing more than anything. It never seemed to have a real story moving through it, just random Hulk violence. And FF was.. really Kiddish. I never liked that, and the animation style was just weird.
X-Men though should be heralded as one of the great television series' of the 90's. It had the story, the characters, the devolopment, the animation style. There may've been a little to much Jubilee towards the begining, but I loved it all the same. And it had some really great stories. And almost all of them had to do with Apocolypse, Magneto, Wolverine, or Mr. Sinister. I even enjoyed Wolverine and the X-Men, I was saddened with Nick cancelled that.
I love you for reminding me of Big Guy and Rusty. As for X-Men toons, they suffer for the most part from 2 main flaws.
1. The X-Men are almost EVERYWHERE at once in their comics. They can be space voyaging or time-traveling or dimension hopping or doing all 3 at the same damn time. When the TV series tried to emulate this, I really lost it, especially when Bishop and Cable came around.
2. For whatever reason, Wolverine becomes the catalyst for almost ever major storyline.
Which is why I liked Evolution a lot better, especially in regards to the Brotherhood. They made Avalanche cool.
