White tends to be a difficult colour to work with but I've heard of a few techniques that makes painting white a whole lot easier:

Spray on a layer of primer, then a bright silver, and spray white over that.

Using an undercoat of light grey makes it easier too.

Actually, Krylon makes a colour called Pewter Grey that I've been meaning to try using as a base coat for painting white. Haven't had the opprotunity to try it out though.

One thing though, if you're spray painting…wear protection. Also see if you can't find a styrofoam base, then get yourself some alligator clips and barbecue skewers. This way you can hold onto the part and paint it without getting your hand or work surface dirty.
