Basically, yeah. I've done that kind of thing a lot before because I'm a huge Dawson's Creek fan and it was filmed 2 hours from where I live. I took hundreds upon hundreds of pictures of locations of common places from the show and from all random scenes I found just by matching up locations or asking residents of the area for clues.

I also found the mall they say is where Ernie's is at. It's Botany Town Centre in Auckland. Most people I talk to confirm that the inside shots are a set, and not the actual mall. The exterior shots are from the actual mall.
