Well…fuck…that was bloody amazing! It’s set the bar so high I’m not sure if Nexus will ever be able to compete. Honestly I really don’t have much to say, because I enjoyed it near enough from start to finish. It was stylishly directed, had great special effects, incredible action scenes and was just all round really great fun.
You would think taking a story that would usually be told in one or two episodes and then blowing it up to feature length by also including all the character development you’d get over a whole series usually wouldn’t work but it actually made the whole thing work so much better.
I was really convinced by this world and the characters that populated it, I wasn’t exactly convinced I was watching a documentary or something but very few Toku shows really have the time to truly establish the impact on the world and the people that populate it that monsters turning up and battling each other would have. The closest I’ve seen to achieving that was Kuuga.
I dunno, I just felt such a sense of investment in all the characters because their arcs were told over 90 minutes and centred around one specific battle, rather than spread out over fifty episodes and fifty battles. And it really made me realise how little I truly care about Toku characters in weekly shows, even if the movie was very corny at times. It’s gonna be hard going back to TV shows with MOTW where the world doesn’t really feel like it’s responding to what is happening at all.
Has the Next got an Ultra-Act?
