Its worse because it isn't like the show is incapable of good characters, Brotou has grown a lot over the course of the series and although Date and Eiji haven't exactly grown, they're both shrouded in mystery which they've unravelled at a very good pace to keep them constantly engaging.

He does just takes Ankh a bit longer, but I love his relationship with Eiji and the others. Yeah I love the mystery of both Eiji and Date's pasts.
