I could argue that Ryuuji was the only one to confirm him as a traitor. All communication was blocked in that room and Trukk Munky sure ain't going to tell anyone, so Ryuuji lying about what happened to give his friend a 2nd chance is possible.

However, I like to think the guy got fired off screen and now hates Ryuuji for saying it'll be okay, but that's just me.
