A pretty plausible explanation for why Mayu has the "generic" suit is because it's a different situation than Magic Land.

Remember, Magic Land has Haruto and the others going to an alternate universe where magic is widespread and everyone can be a mage. In the series there are only 3 mages, White Wizard and Haruto. Each mage in the series gets a different color, Mayu just ended up with the one we've all seen first. If anything, it probably wouldn't be such a big deal if we saw Mayu transform for the first time before ads for Magic Land started popping up in the OP and ED.
