I think the Byakkoshinken has two modes to represent it when Kou isn't and is transformed. I don't remember an instance in which it extended during a fight.
Not sure why Kibaranger would need both versions, if that is the case, because he's obviously transformed. Although it might've been unextended whenever Kou held it up so Byakko could talk for him.

I remember seeing some one mention that using a stand even for standing poses is better as it can help prevent damage to the figure itself.

I'd say go for the stands, even when you're not putting them in Dynamic poses, they stabalize the figures, especially when they're holding heavy accessories and they're flexible enough to be useful in collection even outside of SHF and they're pretty darn cheap for what you get. I converted to buying stands when the first SHF I ever had (DekaRed)'s cabinet was bumped and dropped several shelves and chipped slightly on the back of his helmet. It's just safer. Plus, displays just look better with them, tbh.
