This is, without a doubt, a double-edged sword.
On the one hand, you have Power Rangers continuing to have a single series be broken in to two seasons spread out over two years. One would believe that this would allow the creators more time to produce a better product - but as we've seen with Megaforce, we're still getting copy/paste translations and an overall "dull" show. We've also seen that Nickelodeon handcuffs Saban Brands in terms of what Saban Brands wants to do - so we have Goseiger suits which transform in to Gokaiger suits which transform in to every past suit because there was no way to celebrate the 20th Anniversary using Gokaiger footage without sacrificing half of the Goseiger footage due to Nick's scheduling format.
On the plus side, Power Rangers is still getting focus and attention from Nickelodeon. Now the #1 kids network on television, having Power Rangers on the show during the Saturday morning popular shows can only help and benefit the franchise and brand name recognition with kids and parents.
Look at Transformers as my example here.
For years, Hasbro signed agreements with Cartoon Network. We had Transformers Armada, Transformers Energon, Transformers Cybertron, and Transformers Animated all airing on Cartoon Network, and Transformers saw a surge in popularity and toy sales. When Hasbro decided to take 100% control of their media and created "The Hub", you saw a dramatic dip in toy sales and television ratings. Sure, the show won an Emmy, but you have to have anything more than "basic cable" if you want to watch it.
Sometimes, you go with the unpopular format with the fans (see: Nickelodeon, or Cartoon Network) in order to keep the brand going without hurting sales and ratings with kids.
I was more shocked that Bandai had an extension - I almost thought for sure that was shoe-horned in with the TOEI license. Interesting.
So the future of Power Rangers is questionable after the GoBusters adaption. Good to know.
