I think, like many others, you are missing the entire point of why they use the combined mecha. It is used to get in and finish off the monster. It runs on Enetron, and they need to conserve that. Your analogy of "it looks at them till they die" isn't even funny, if being funny was your goal. Perhaps you miss the big ass sword and such.
