It's a good start and it's wonderful that you're keeping with the spirit of the showing and giving it your own flair. I don't own the kit yet, but looking at the manual and info page at Dalong's, I have a few thoughts:

If you disassemble the shoulder pads, you can clean up the excess yellow paint surrounding the groove. This way you save your hard work.

If you do want to strip the silver paint, a good solvent to use is Windex or any of its analogs. let it soak over night and then use an old toothbrush to remove the paint. It won't eat away at the plastic like actual paint strippers will.

Additionally, it might be easier to disassemble the shield and paint the white piece silver when separated. Thin the silver with a little bit of water and apply several thinner coats of silver and that should help keep the paint from "clumping" up as much.

Again, great start. Keep it up.
