I just feel meh about the trailer. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't amazing either. I know, terrible Toku fan. Godzilla (the original one) is the only film I have ever fallen asleep whilst watching though, so that probably has something to do with it.

I kind of agree here. Sometimes it feels as though a film has to use CGI, like it's trying to hit a quota. Heck even YouTube videos/fan films feel the need to thrown in tacky looking explosions and stock muzzle flares. I still think it's that that put me off slightly with pacific rim and Avengers. Same for horror as well. My film student brain tells me it's a bunch of numbers or funky make up and any suspension of belief/level of escapism/engrossment in the film is just reduced to a minimum. On the other hand, a guy in a rubber suit smashing up a model village just feels all that more real to me. Probably nostalgia's fault that...
