I find that casting Koji Seto as the innocent, introverted Wataru really highlights the duality of the character -- which makes more sense when you get deeper into the series.

I got the sense that Kiva is a part of Wataru that he actively represses -- and that repressed, savage side of his personality takes over whenever he henshins.

Say what you will about the overall quality of Kamen Rider Kiva (I'm personally a fan -- though I recognize its myriad flaws), but Wataru has one of the most effective character arcs of any KR series I've watched. He's a very different guy by the end of the series.

Given how he acts when he takes up the role of King, I can actually see that. That death glare that made Fangire wet their pants does line up with the aggressiveness that is Kiva.
