For the story, let me paste in the first paragraph from my fanfic.

Legends are often based in truth. Some more than others. And there was one about this very day, this very year, this very moment, that would prove to be absolutely true.

There once was a Princess. One whom ruled over the cosmos and the worlds below with patience and wisdom beyond her great years. Loving upon the creatures which she helped nurture and grow. But as five great kingdoms rose a darkness spread throughout the cosmos. The Devourer. It started small, as often these things do, devouring a planet here. Another there. Keeping far from the Princess’ domain. Until one day, with no warning, it began devouring the sun which spread warmth among the nine planets of her kingdom. A great battle raged between her people and this Devourer. But, as she took a vow of Non-Violence, she could do nothing to help her people.
The Devourer won.
The Princess alone. Adrift among the endless nothing that was once her beautiful kingdom, holding the Five Royals she was able to save. All she was able to save.

Everyone else, all the beauty of her kingdom, lost to the great Beast. In her sadness she curled around the five she was able to save and sacrificed herself. Breaking her vow as she destroyed all of creation to remake the universe as it once was.. But without her majesty to protect over it all. The Beast though could not be destroyed, even by her ultimate sacrifice. So she charged these five. Granting them armor, immortality, charging them with protecting this new Universe she created from the old.

Because one day the Beast would arise again. And all of Creation would again be in danger.
