Heck, with how crazy popular Jake and the Neverland Pirates is with kids, it also seems like a missed opportunity to cash in too.

Because you see a pirate, as you know the context. This isn't like where Megaforce literally left 'Goseiger' on the cards, the suits can allude to pirates but they also don't have to BE pirate suits if you don't want them to be. Just as much as you say the helmets look like hats or bandanna, they also look like...helmets. Coats are just...coats. Gold trims are regal and fit with the anniversary and so on. That is the difference.
