They have no obligation to listen to fans and followers, which is why we end up with 3 sets of subs for some shows. Yep. And the older shows tend to have a smaller fanbase than the more recent stuff outside of people who grew up with the shows. There are some people out there who like these shows and want to sub them, but it's a far smaller group than those who are more interested in subbing shows from the last 10-15 years.

It also tends to go by franchise, which is why you get a lot of Rider and Sentai shows subbed, but very little Ultra or Metal Heroes, much less more obscure things like Akumaizer-3 or Zubat.

I assume that the age of the series also has negative affects on both its video quality and, more importantly for translating, audio.
