The movie was good, but it was flawed. Trying to invalidate the people mentioning these flaws by saying "well they just didn't GET it" doesn't do anything. Especially when you're wrong, I've seen nearly every Godzilla movie made. That doesn't magically make this movie's flaws not flaws any more.

Again, the big problem with Godzilla's involvement in the film wasn't that he was missing for the majority of it, but the fact that he contributed very little to the overall plot. His biggest (nearly only) contribution was getting rid of the MUTOs. The 1954 movie was about Godzilla. Everything about the plot related back to him in some way.

Both were FAR more interesting characters then Ford and both were severely underutilised.
