I'm interested that you separate action and effects into two different categories and hate one and love the other. For me, as much as I loved how violent Blade was with the lightest of touch setting off about a thousand squibs at once for a massive, visceral explosion the Sega CD level of effects work on the special moves ruined every action sequence for me. Especially as they focused more and more on chaining powers together with some of the most pathetic final results I've ever seen. I just thought it was a waste of a great and well utilised gimmick and no action sequence could outlive how shit it all looked.
