I was quite happy with just "over 900", Matt Smith initially adding about 400 years onto that was annoying but bearable. But the whole Trenzalore thing was ridiculous. It was literally just a case of Moffat wanting his first Doctor to be the best. Not only was he the one to beat the regeneration count by fast forwarding things, but he was also the one that got to live the longest.

Moffat does always seem to compensate for something with his characters... Clara being super important, his Doctor living forever...
