According to an interview released after the film, the crew were purposefully making it dark gritty and over the top to show how you shouldn't do grim and dark stuff. Yeah fat chance. They made a bad fan film and now they're covering tracks is what it looks like to me.

Even if this thing is parody or satire of the dark film reboot idea, it's utterly pointless. It isn't even enjoyable as an examination & deconstruction of that sub genre. It's just pandering violence and swear words for the fun of it.
