I can answer the first part of that, which in turn will answer the second. Chaiyo was a company Tsuburaya Productions collaborated with for two Ultraman movies back in the mid 70s. The president of Chaiyo claimed that in 1976, the company was given distribution rights for everything(or the first 6 series of) Ultraman, outside of Japan, by Noboru Tsuburaya, in exchange for a loan. Now, the contract did not clearly state how much the loan was, or even if it was monetary in the first place. But that's irrelevant because both Japanese and Thai courts accepted it as legal binding, simply because the Hanko(personal seal) of the late Noboru Tsuburaya was on the document.

So basically, Tsuburaya Productions got screwed over by the court system because someone was able to reproduce(or steal) a stamp for a document that no one properly looked over before accepting it. When it was looked over, it was full of many errors. Like Ultra Q being titled Ultaman 1. Tsuburaya Prod. and Tsuburaya Enterprises, being used. Neither were ever used by the company.


It's been a massive cluster in the court system for years now. Not helping is it isn't exactly clear what Chaiyo can and cannot do, even to them. They tried making Ultras of their own which resulted in an infringement lawsuit that Tsuburaya won. Merchandise like statues and such is another thing that isn't clear.
