A lot of Power Rangers seasons considered good are original and 'butcher' their Sentai counterparts, like RPM, In Space, Zeo and arguably MMPR. Even Time Force, the best example of good direct adaptations, 'butchered' characters like Don Dolnero. This doesn't mean all original adaptations are good, but it does mean we at least have something exciting and new.
