I have no idea what they're going for with Joker. It just doesn't fit. People are saying "well Heath Ledger's Joker looked stupid at first" but it's not the same thing. Heath Ledger's Joker and his scars and face paint were merely an alternate approach to the Joker's typical defomity. Joker here still has his deformity, plus all the extra stupid shit they tacked-on. It's overdone.

Plus, Joker's supposed to be a hyper-intellectual and a narcissist, and grilled teeth do not in any way say "intellectual." When would he get all this stupid shit done to him, unless it's all from before his chemical mishap? (if that's even the origin) It's why he always wears a suit. He's a clown, a self-styled clown prince no less. Even Ledger's Joker had the oversized shoes, colourful outfit and obvious makeup to offset the missing primary colours and faux-dapper style. Here he's just... completely genericized. Hell, change the hair colour alone and there's not a single Joker-like thing about him. (even with the green hair he's too generic)

I'm all for reinvention, but it has to have a clear purpose and payoff, especially when done to higher profile characters. There's no clear advantage to having the Joker reduced to an everyday psychotic with a shite design. He's no more intimidating, no more clown-like. Much like most of DC's character's, he seems to have been robbed of most of his colour and persoanlity in favour of something blander. And I know most will try and say "but you've only seen him for a few seconds!" Well, a few seconds is all I need to identify literally any other Joker incarnation I am aware of, so it should've worked here, y'now?

At least that's my point of view. pretty much copy/paste the same sentiments for Harley, who is likewise completely unrecognisable for no other advantage than to make her more generic and mass-appealing. Obviously with a character so popular, appeaing to that popularity by changing the character completely is the way to go.
