Seriously? Why did no one just raise a hand and go "Hey, why don't we make this look a little less shit?"

I know this was explained in a net video a few years ago; I think it was one of the Decade ones. It's been a long time since I saw it, but as I remember it was a case of the helmet and/or suit getting damaged and needing emergency on-site repairs.

To be fair, though, the original Rider 1 suit wasn't exactly the highest quality thing ever made to begin with.
