More than likely, he'll find out that if he doesn't, the "mystery person/thing" that gave him the belt will tell him that he'll die again if he doesn't.

It all points to the "thing" that gives him the belt being manipulative and having him capture these souls because he wants them for some other reason and knows that Takeru will use the wish to stay alive.

Well my bad then since the translation I read said by using the Driver he would have a "temporary life" which strongly indicated that he is technically still dead and only alive as long as hes using the Driver.
