Now with the sister show airing during the hiatus...I think that is a bad idea. That is the prime time that Nick promotes getting out and playing and if the same time slot is kept (noon on Saturdays), that is optimal time for kids to be out playing/being with their families. It would be weird if PR told them to stay inside and watch a show with a bunch of characters they are being caught up on. The nostalgia factor doesn't apply here in the US though; these older teams are not part of the first audience's childhood, nor did most of us know of these teams until fairly recently. And the kids that these teams would be marketed to have no idea who they are. Now what you are describing would probably be pretty popular in Japan, but you can't tug on the nostalgia strings when those shows didn't air here, nor did their stock fight footage.
I still don't think Bandai is dumb enough to put out a competing toy line when their main line would still be on the shelves. Releasing new toys of the show is how they keep kids interested in the show during the break, so why would they compete with themselves? What little sales they might get from the sister show would be money taken away from the current show.
I understand your reasons for wanting this show to be made and I agree with them, but there is nothing for Saban Brands and Bandai to gain by making it. You are looking at this from an adult fan's perspective and not a business perspective; Saban and Bandai would lose more than they would gain from doing this. The fans would gain more knowledge of the Power Rangers legacy, but that could be supplemented with online shorts on the official website. It doesn't need a show.
And the footage would look terrible on modern TV's. Imagine old Flashgun footage on a 70 inch plasma...horrible. Lol
I can explain most of this. The time slot is flexible, and it might be better if they did this when all they have is syndication on the air. If you have a superfluous show on at night, then there is justification and little conflict with "fun in the sun". Second, the older teams are only partial to the idea. I'm referring to EVERYTHING FROM 20 YRS OF P.R. HISTORY. This could encompass anything: History of Zordon and Gosei, Vekar and Vrak prior to the Invasion, the unexplained interim between Zeo and Turbo, the fate of Scorpina, Rito Revolto, Gasket and Archerina, the backstory to the Machine Empire Generals from "Forever Red", when did Zedd and Rita have Thrax, possible Scorpius and Captain Mutiny interaction, why Ninjor made Power Coins based on DINOSAURS!!! I could probably say more, but if you take all of that, then you have a whole different story worthy of its own series, and there likely isn't a better way than a "sister series" to explain why Pre-Zyu teams are in P.R. That is where the nostalgia factor kicks in! That is why and how you can garner fan support! If TV movies and online shorts are required then there is some flexibility there as well. And the competition between toys would not be so detrimental that you can't work around it. Remember, Saban already did competition back in the day with VR Troopers, Beetleborgs, and Mystic Knights. Plus, Bandai already did similar "Legacy" things before and now. "Power Playback" lines, Retrofire Megazords, and the upcoming and highly anticipated Legacy Thunder Megazord. And Super Megaforce toys are still on shelves if only in small doses. It wouldn't even have to be called "Power Rangers _____", as that would confuse people. The show and the line would need something unique, but simple and definitive like "Legacy of Rangers." However, Saban would only recognize the need if fan support was strong enough, and luckily, there is a buck to be made when thinking P.R.
P.S.: I had NO INTENTION of relying solely on outdated Sentai footage. Changeman, Flashman, Maskman, Fiveman, and Dairanger were made when TV ratios were different. Ever seen Dragon Ball Z Kai on Toonami? That and the age would conflict horribly. The benefit here is that four of the five had movies which MIGHT have been done in widescreen, and that is something to consider. Add that with unused Gokaiger footage and some New Zealand shoots and there might be a chance. The rights to the movies, like the 199 Hero Special, would also be beneficial and necessary. I'm also not saying that the teams would appear every two seconds. They should (and would have to) be used rather sparingly, but when focus should happen, IT SHOULD HAPPEN IN FORCE!!!
