It's not a matter of laziness. It's simply that design philosophy within Sentai has changed. It kind of started with Go-onger and has really developed into something that's a bit more simplistic and toyetic. I don't mind it, because the toys will be awesome to play with, but it's certainly not the same as before.

You can kind of see how the suit and mecha designs evolve throughout history. The mecha for example, went from blocky in the 80's to a bit more detailed and mechanical from Zyuranger, to natural and organic starting with Gaoranger, and finally now we have something that's definitely more kiddified. My guess is that they're aiming younger and younger with their demographic, hence the designs.
