It's just an unfortunate coincidence. The LAPD doesn't care about the release schedule of a suspect's 15-year-old tv series and they definitely haven't been communicating with Saban or Shout Factory about PR (public relations, not Power Rangers) concerns. The timing is weird, yes, but coincidences happen.

At the end of the day, this will go to trial. If the jury decides this was legitimately self defense then he'll be acquitted; if they feel it wasn't then he'll go to jail. Either way, we'll probably get a much better sense of what happened as the trial unfolds (assuming it gets good press coverage).
