How did Tyler get his Dad's journal?

James said Fury was only tracking them the day before... enough time to make a detailed sketch?

Has the battle between Fury and Aqua really been going on for 10 years? Fury called Tyler's Dad weak, but all we saw was James escaping the cave with Fury in it.

It is a real letdown after the season long build up since Episode 1 of this show.
