But they...Don't have super human abilities. They're not picking up enemies and throwing them, they're not running on par with the Flash, they're not shooting energy from their hands. They were just 5 people who fought with martial arts, using weapons and ability to overcome enemies, not powers.

I don't really agree that the suits lend themselves to martial arts. Though they're not heavily armored, the suits lend themselves more towards someone who would use grappling techniques.

I can understand why some people dislike these.. But I honestly never expected them to use the classic spandex suits.

And hey.. Maybe they will use the normal suits at some point.. Who knows.

So this leads to the question of why reference the originals? PR and Sentai are known for their annual team and suit switches. We know the original suits, and if they're wanting to bank on the crowd that grew up with the rangers, why alter what they remember? Most people, even 90's kids, know Power Rangers is a fluid and changing franchise. Why not just create their own, original team, and drop the weak connections to things like power coins, dinosaurs, and the like? It's a reboot that isn't held back by pre-filmed footage. If it's doing it's own thing with the characters and premise, why is it forcing similarities in such places?

It feels like the worst of both worlds to me, personally, forcing in ties to draw nostalgia, but wanting to do their own thing and changing familiar things so radically.
