If we disregard our preconception of what a Megazord is
supposed
to look like
and sort of accept this as a
redefinition
of the concept, then I think it's an okay robot design; I don't see the big deal. Kind of looks vaguely Ultraman-y to me.
My guess is that, in the movie, the Dinozords transform into core pieces of the body and then they are kind of "sewn" together with the chainmail portions developing between them via magical alien goop-tech. Just like how the Ranger suit materializes around Tommy in the trailer. I kind of like that idea in a way, and I guess my biggest problem with the concept is that there is
legitimately
ZERO consideration for making a good transforming toy out of it.
Oh well. Just like with the individual T-Rex zord, I think it'll look WAY better in the actual movie.
This is what really caught my eye. I've seen a lot of "doesn't look like a megazord" posted all over, and I agree. If we are talking about the tv show. For this movie universe though? We don't know what a megazord is supposed to look like until now. In this universe the megazord looks like Japanese anime mecha and that's okay.
We can't look at this thing through the lens of 1993 because we will be let down. Looking at this as its own thing I can appreciate what it is. Now I'm not saying anyone has to like it, but saying you don't because it's not like the '93 version is kinda crazy. We knew this wasn't going to be anywhere near MMPR.
