Okay. So let's look at the history of what happened.

The Chaos Energem is stolen by Lord Arcanon and one of the results is the destruction of Sentai 6, leaving Heckyl as the sole survivor. He is then fused in to one being with Snide, and is imprisoned by Sledge who is in the service of Lord Arcanon.

The disturbance of the Chaos Energem being stolen and the destruction of Sentai 6, Keeper takes the remaining Energems and flees. Sledge, with the assistance of Lord Arcanon, is able to track him and, for whatever reason, captures the asteroid meant to wipe out the dinosaurs on Earth. Once Keeper is found, Sledge blasts him and the events in the show happen.

So how do you explain this separate Universe that stems not just a random place in time (like the future) but one that changes the very fundamentals of the entire history of the planet Earth (thus making it NOT work with any previous series)?

The Energems have the ability to open up space and time. We saw that it sent people in to the past (Dino Supercharge finale) and sent them back to the future (Ivan, Koda). So here's a thought on how to explain Dino Charge/Dino Supercharge and keep it in continuity somehow.

Dino Charge and Dino Supercharge, itself, are its own separate Universe, created when events changed due to time travel from a present Universe villain who sought to seek out the Energems/Chaos Energem for themself/ves.

Maybe it's Arcanon - who goes in to the past to retrieve the Chaos Energem and other Energems but is thwarted by Keeper, who flees with the Energems after the Chaos Energem has been compromised. Sledge is sent by Arcanon to retrieve them, grabs some asteroids on the way (that were supposed to hit the Earth), the events of the show happen. Maybe if Arcanon doesn't come to the past, grab the Chaos Energem, and employs Sledge ... maybe Sledge doesn't come to Earth, and the asteroid hits like it's supposed to, and history happens as normal in the normal Universe.

So what are the Energems then, and where are they in the main Universe? Well, there's only one other crystal-like object that I'm aware of that can manipulate space and time - the Zeo Crystal. Maybe without interference from a future time traveler, the Energems become the Zeo Crystal, and maybe the Chaos Energem being part of that is what ends up scarring Lord Zedd and disfiguring him. I know that it's stated that Zordon opened up holes in time and space, but maybe it was the Zeo Crystal allowing that to happen - otherwise why the heck didn't Zordon use that ability at any other point in the history of his existence?

So in short:

Main timeline:

Asteroid hits Earth killing dinosaurs. From the M51 Galaxy, beings deliver the Energems to Earth for safe-keeping, hiding them from the forces of Lord Zedd. Over time, the crystals fuse together to form what becomes known as the Zeo Crystal. Zordon arrives from Eltar after fleeing Lord Zedd and is pursued by Rita Repulsa. MMPR happens. Rangers discover the Zeo Crystal. Blah blah blah up through Jungle Fury, then Samurai through Super Megaforce.

Time traveler arrives at Sentai 6 and to take Chaos Energem, destroying the planet. Keeper flees with Energems and is pursued by a hired goon named Sledge. He captures the asteroid meant for Earth, travels to Earth to find Keeper, and the events of the first episode happen. Zordon never flees Eltar because the forces of Lord Zedd never attack because they've been conquered by Lord Arcanon and the Chaos Energem.

So in my theory - the Energems are actually the Zeo Crystal before being fused together. The difference comes from whether or not the Chaos Energem is stolen. If it isn't, Dino Charge never happens. If it is, Dino Charge happens and none of the other Power Rangers ever exist.
