The biggest reason is likely the nostalgia factor. Without being (arguably) tied to the original series, I don't know how well generic "Power Rangers" with a new team, villain, and theme would sell. That being said, I honestly feel like this Alpha more closely resembles his original design than anything else we've seen so far.
