Although, aside from the cockpit and requisite scale issues... it's not awful. I still think going for all these smooth "alien" designs was a mistake, although I'm biased towards loving chunky designs.

I'm actually not biased either way, but I think the reason I'd like more chunky, rugged designs is because it's something Hollywood hasn't really done aside from Pacific Rim's Jaegers. This smooth alien aesthetic is so typical.

The reason a lot of Zoids have cockpits is because they're basically that universes equivelant of fighter jets and tanks. It works with the aesthetic. In fact, some Zoids like the Liger Zero didn't have cockpit windows, but Gundam-style full view screens. Cockpits here just seem weird, because they're so advanced and alien, something as mundane and practical as clear windows sticks out.
