The simplicity of the toys this time around leads me to suspect they're still aiming for very young viewers, so I can't see them getting too dark, regardless of what the premise is. Seeing as how Sentai has been a ratings failure since Go-Busters, perhaps they decided it was time to try something new and are starting by aiming for an older audience, especially since Kamen Rider has gone all childish for the last few series.
