Ever since his appearance in Gokaiger, I've loved Gavan.
His look is gorgeous. It's a great blend of the cheesiness of random sci-fi with the coolness that metal heroes naturally bring. I've always been a sucker for animal motifs, but he's still pretty sweet without any sort of overt motif.
The figure itself looks really nice. I know you're not a fan of the chrome, but I am. The look of the reflective body isn't too common, and it really pops.
However, I am well aware that it basically means even a smidge of dust can ruin the look and fingerprints stick to him like magnets, so it's also super understandable why they don't design things like that more often
Anyway, his sword looks sweet as hell, and I love that they include a special version with an effect slash. It's always nice when they include effects parts. Helps put them into more dynamic poses rather than their typical action pose~
The horror stories about the wrists was the prime reason why I never picked one up, despite coming across him on Mandarake for about $20 multiple times. It's a real shame that the wrists are so poor and fragile. As for his other issue, I actually didn't know the chrome had a flaking problem. I know chrome does have a tendency to flake on basically anything, but I wasn't aware it was actually a big issue for him in specific.
It's a real shame, because I like the look of the character and the figure, but the problems are just too much to warrant a buy.
I'm kind of looking forward for the new release, but I anticipate that I probably can't afford it.
