I understand the show and movie are two different universes but that didn't have to stop them from using the same universal gimmick. In fact it probably would've helped sales and led to a more popular toy. The next thing that gets me is my Gosei that's a hell-of-a-lot of parts-forming. When you sit down and realize this is for kids, wtf were they thinking? What ten year old is going to have the patience for sitting down and dismantling all of that and even more patience to put the damned thing back together? It's like they completely forgot what drives MMPR isn't the story, or characters, it's toy sales. You could have the best written series in the history of PR with in-depth characters and amazing plot, but if the toys don't sell? Bye Bye Zordon. And these toys.. It's like they focused so hard on the movie they didn't realize until a month ago "Oh damn.. we gotta make toys!". It's.. confusing. But it isn't all negative I don't think. The overall designs of the zords have grown on me (I absolutely love Pink's Fighter-esque Pteradactyl). I like the size, it's nice having a large megazord again instead of the shrimpy ZB versions (I love ZB, don't get me wrong, but they could stand to be a little bigger). What I can't forgive really is the absolutely utter lack of paint. It's just solid color molded plastic after solid color molded plastic. But that's an overall BoA problem, really.
After seeing this, and knowing I for damned sure don't have the patience for all that parts-forming, I'm content with my decision to skip the movie Zords. There's just nothing here for me.

Does Hawkeye really need itty-bitty arrowheads that transform like the Bay movie Transformers? Iron Man's suit just keeps getting more and more complicated. Falcon can't just have wings, they have to be metal super foldy-uppy wings that break physics entirely because they don't weigh a thing apparently. I'm surprised Cap's sheild isn't made of a million pieces that rotate and spin for no reason.
It's complexity for dummies. Complexity where you aren't rewarded for following the movement's and paths of parts as they change along a predeterimined scheme of conversion. Just a mess of shit. At least in the early Bay movies the TFs had so much kibble like wheels and shit that
some
parts still mattered where they went. Ultimately one form
still
looked like the other. Not here, not given what this Megazord look like compared to the non-transforming one. On the surface it's intricate, but in reality it's anything but, because nothing is intertwined or figured out. That's Hollywood in a nutshell. It makes you
think
there's a lot going on, but really it's just a swarm of meaningless noise. (you can decide whether or not that extendeds past just technology) These toys were doomed to fail.
And yet still, there's things that can't be explained by the shit movie deisgns. Like the partsforming. I'm sorry, but the Dino Thunder Megazord, one of
the
most basic Megazords of the Pre-RPM era, managed to do the exact same trick with the T-rex head (abliet in reverse) without partsforming. Clearly this toy isn't accurate anyway, so why all the partsforming? Did the T-rex legs really need to
detach
? We have decades of transforming toys to look back on that tell us you can do better than that.
And even ignoring that, the cheapness of the toys is even more inexcusable. Hollow, one-part limbs that look like cake moulds from the back. The T-rex limbs fixed in a pose for the sake of the Megazord that's useless in dinosaur mode. Barely any paint or colour seperation through plastic. The gimmicks are tacked-on and meaningless. There's no use of transparent plastics. It just
screams
cheap and worthless.
EDIT: Also, I like Bruno, but his one comment on the video is hilariously pathetic. "Just save up!"
$120 US?
For a shitty toy? Why, for brand loyalty? A brand that is far too often
not
especially kind to its fans? His defending of this movie and its toys is rather... unconvincing.
I seriously wonder who's actually going to buy this oversized mess.
In their
Slight
defense that's probably exactly why they made the much cheaper non transforming Megazord toy.
But yeah between this and Playmates Combining Voltron I know where I'd put my 120+$
