Sorry for causing any extra work today, Mods.
I saw what you wrote, I receive email notifications. You're right about one thing, having a negative or critical opinion about something doesn't make someone a depressing person.
...in general.
If, however, you receive an unending stream of negativity on all sides, you quickly realize there's some depression behind it. It's one thing to not like a movie or an item or a whatever, I get that. I get the whole not wanting to support it, etc.
It crosses a line when it's just absolute crazy hate over a movie about a kids show that has toys.
A lot of people come to message boards and Facebook groups to find a community and share their thoughts and share in the good times and the bad, but it seems negativity far outweighs the positivity in situations such as this one and I cannot figure out why.
It's a movie, with some toys, is it really worth getting so upset about? Is it really worth it that much to you or anyone who shares the negative opinion that they have to constantly try to voice it over and over and then get others to join in with it?
You said you don't watch Power Rangers, so the movie really shouldn't matter to you at all, regardless of whether or not you find it visually pleasing or not.
I just don't understand the need to make a negative comment on something that doesn't affect you. There are plenty of times and situations when I could say something because I see or hear something I don't like, but I don't feel a need to. If that were the case, I'd probably be on every thread, every group, finding some way to utterly tear apart everything about a subject.
I just don't feel a need to voice a negative opinion on something just because I can, and if it doesn't affect me, personally, I certainly don't see a need to do so. Those who are positive about a situation like to enjoy the brief high they got out of what they just experienced. They don't always need a voice coming along and telling them how awful everything is.
After a certain point, people do get sick of it.

Some of these people would probably complain about a blowjob from a porn star.
Anyways, I really enjoyed the trailer. The zords and megazord look great in their cg models, the humor is mostly on point, action looks fantastic. Absolutely love how Zordon was done as well, and Alpha looks really good too (headlights are still taking some getting used to, but I still dig the design).
I'm so glad I finished reading this before taking a drink, otherwise I'd be looking for a new laptop right about now. I laughed way more than I probably should have, but...that was a gem. *tips hat*

That's not inherently a negative and people need to stop pushing it as if it is.
Sometimes formula just works. Look at Coke vs New Coke. Messed with the formula, tried to change it and it was an utter disaster. It was the source of a ton of jokes in the '80s and even changed how big corporations do business and make plans for the future. Heck, the fact that it can even be brought up today tells you how much of an impact it had. Sometimes sticking to formula just flat out works.

provoking, knee-jerk response.
Constant negativity tends to bring that out in people, just as constant positivity can do the same thing. It's how we handle it with others that makes the difference.

Or, like, interact with people period. I mean, if negative reactions to a shitey movie trailer sets you off, I honestly wonder how normal human interactions work when this, of all thing, illicits such a response.
You're sick of negativity, I'm sick of shitty movies, yet we know both have been around forever, will never go away, and we can't do anything about them but try our best to ignore them.
I've been told more times than I can count that people wish I'd shut up. Sometimes even by administrators and moderators. So, encouragement isn't always the case. (NOTE: That did not happen here, want to make that clear.)
I can interact with people just fine, especially in person where we can discuss issues like normal people without a screen in front of our faces and a keyboard to be a warrior on. I don't know what you're like when you're offline, so I won't even assume, thanks for the same courtesy. Appreciate it so much. (Sarcasm, in case you were wondering.)
Plenty of us are sick of shitty movies, myself included. That being said, this is a trailer, you have no idea that the film actually IS shitty. Is it possible? Sure. Is it possible that it isn't? Sure. You've automatically locked yourself into thinking it's a piece of shit as movies go and you don't truly know. (And no, you cannot say that you do know for a fact that it's actually shitty. That's an absolute impossibility.)
Examples of not so great movies....
The Incredible Hulk... Trailer looked good, but I found it fell flat and I'm not the only one. It made money and a good portion of critics liked it, but the final film and the trailer weren't exactly simpatico in my book. (Edward Norton was a terrible fit, Mark Ruffalo is fantastic in replacing him.)
The Avengers: Age Of Ultron... Trailers looked great, loved the whole Ultron singing Pinocchio's tune sent chills up people's spines, it looked like it was going to be awesome. The end result was overblown, too long and even Joss Whedon wasn't 100% happy with final film and was quite vocal about how it all came together in the end. (The Avengers was awesome, shame the sequel couldn't carry the weight.)
Batman V Superman... Batman? Awesome. Superman? Awesome. Beating the crap out of each other just like they did in the comics, but in live action? Awesome. Turned out to be a snoozefest and the extended cut, while better, just extends the snoozier parts and it retains it's chorefest quality. (Just an absolute mess. Fortunately, Batfleck is worth the price of admission.)
My point? Just because a trailer gives you an idea or an expectation now, doesn't mean the film will be that way. You automatically assume this film will be shit, you really don't know for sure.
Part of that mindset? Negativity breeds negativity. You see others do it, you feel justified and it spreads like a virus. Is it really that hard to even try and see something positive about this film? I don't think so.

If you like it, hooray you have a Power Rangers movie to be excited about.
If you don't, fair enough. Either way you're entitled to give your opinion just as much as anyone else if you're doing it constructively and without lashing out at people.
A lot of you "might be sick of the negativity" or whatever, but both camps are equally ridiculous and don't make these threads particularly fun to read or moderate.
No one is trying curtail discussion, but it's perfectly possible to do it without labelling each other haters or apologists or whatever.
Anyway, back to the thread.
I'd say the negativity side far outweighs the positivity side. I'm not sure that both camps are equally ridiculous, either. I don't think a broad brush is the best method in this case. There are plenty of people in both camps who aren't extremists.
"I don't like the film, but I'm glad they're expanding the universe out so the audience can hopefully expand and bring in new fans." Negative side of the argument, but sees potential in the situation.
"I love what I see, but I get that it's not quite the MMPR everyone grew up with. Might be worth watching just to see if there's something you can like about it."
Positive, but not shoving it down people's throats.
I understand that there's usually the zealots out there being the most vocal and they usually get other side to react in a manner that's less than respectable. (Both sides do this, not just the negative side.)
That said, negativity definitely outweighs positivity. One of the Facebook groups has a post with a screen capture of TFW's forums and in the image it was a couple of posts that basically amounted to "What was awesome about Transformers/3rd Party in 2016" and "What was awful about Transformers/3rd Party in 2016" and the negative thread completely obliterated the positive thread in terms of numbers. Both in views and posts. I mean, by FAR.
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree that both sides equally just as bad, negative loses a purpose past a certain point, you can only complain about something so much and nothing really gets done in the end. The film is pretty much in the can, complaining about it now will do nothing. Just say you won't support it and move on without having to constantly remind people you think it sucks or you hate it, etc.
To be fair, the positive loses it's purpose if they're going overboard using the exact same tactics as the negative side is. It's also not helpful if the film does turn out to be a dud and just ignoring it and saying "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" because that does nothing to fix the future or help with the present.
Still, the numbers don't lie, we all need more positivity.

want to not see the movie, if that makes any sense. The first trailer repelled me, this just makes me laugh. Maybe when it hits Netflix, or my small local theatre gets it.
But wheras the first trailer looked too dour and stone-faced, this looks like it's trying too hard to be quipy and hip wit da youts. Where's the happy middle ground?
Alright, now this is a critical comment I can sort of work with. At the very least, you laid it out in fine detail as to what's bothering you about it instead of "I hate it, I hate it! No, I don't have to explain it to you. It's stupid and you're wasting your money!" which is basically the gist of most negative comments on message boards and FB groups.
So, I'll respond to your post the best way I can.
The first trailer, I liked a lot, but it did feel like a rush job in terms of editing and I can understand some of why people didn't connect to it as much as the filmmakers had hoped.
This trailer, I thought the addressing the black Ranger issue was pretty funny. A stand up comedian would've addressed it as well and probably quite offensively. This film has certain restrictions and at least wanted to acknowledge that the filmmakers know what we've been saying and how wrong 1993's set up was.
Some of it was quippy, that's true, and without the rest of the scene it's in we just don't know if the line will work or not. The "lotta gold" line didn't stick the landing with me, either. I thought it was cringeworthy.
I'm not sure there can be a middle ground, however. Seeing how both sides are approaching this issue, I'd imagine there would be more than a few who would receive a middle ground trailer as such: "Oh, you can tell they're trying to pander to us. They cut out the shit lines, toned down some of the superdark stuff and gave us a trailer that's just kind of meh. It doesn't go out of it's way to offend, but it doesn't do anything to sell me on it either. This movie just sucks and there will be no trailer good enough to sell it."
And you know I'm right. You've seen the TF movie forums over at TFW. I might be paraphrasing and it's not word for word, but that's the basic gist that comes out with each and every movie. It's getting to the point where it seems like it's changed from "Can't please everybody all of the time" to "Can't really please anyone. I just wish they'd stop destroying my childhood." (I'll never, ever understand that whole thing. I grew up with Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series. Both of which were excellent. (Especially BTAS) and BVS: Dawn Of Justice didn't ruin my childhood or my experiences with those two shows.)
