AFAIK, it's cause they had to make Megaforce a two-season show based on their contract with Nickelodeon. Plus, Saban -- especially after the Power Rangers license reverted back to them from Disney -- just has a shitty track record when it comes to respecting the Japanese source material.

I know that a bunch of old actors did show up in SMF, but I do recall hearing that there were some budgetary issues.

Though, saying I'm not really a Power Rangers guy is the understatement of the year, so I could be wrong about all of this. Except for the part about Saban being bad at adaptation. That part I know is true.
