Long story short, the movie will make money. In fact, by next week, I'm confident the rest of the advertising budget will be covered. The question going forward will be, is the movie going to make enough money to justify a sequel? There are a ton of factors to keep in mind, not least of which is Lionsgate hurting for a new franchise and if they see potential to do something better with a sequel, that could justify it for them. But, again, this also depends of the foreign market vs how well it does in the US.
As someone who's day job is international distribution for a major Hollywood studio (trust me, it's less cool than it sounds), I can confirm that this is a solid overview. I do have to point out that when any movie outperforms expectations, it is a
big deal
. Successes like this will be used in any argument to justify making a sequel. The people at Lionsgate must be pretty thrilled this week.
There are still plenty of international territories where it hasn't premiered, many of them huge box office earners (cough--
China
--cough), so the weak international take this weekend isn't too much to be concerned about.

Another reason they keep making Transformer movies is their consistent, record-breaking international box office numbers.
